01Decide what you want help with
A one-off personal tax return is different from ongoing business bookkeeping. Start with the type of assignment, reporting period and preferred language. Mention a move or income from multiple countries where relevant, without sharing financial amounts in the first enquiry.
For a business, decide who will collect invoices, review payments and prepare records: you, your bookkeeper or both.
02Ask for a clear scope before agreeing
Request a written description of what the fee covers, possible extras and delivery timing. Compare quotes for the same work rather than comparing starting prices alone.
Ask about similar assignments, corrections and communication. Agree who monitors filing and payment deadlines.
03Organise records and access
KVK identifies invoices, bank statements, contracts and tax correspondence as important business records. Organise the relevant periods so a provider can assess the assignment.
Keep DigiD passwords and document copies out of the first enquiry. Once you choose a provider, agree secure document delivery and any authority needed to act on your behalf.
