01Start with availability at your address
An attractive offer only helps if it can be installed in your home. Check your address with the provider and confirm the activation date. A socket or an existing router does not by itself confirm an active subscription.
If you rent, ask whether internet is included and who manages the contract before ordering another subscription.
02Match the connection to your household
Consider how many people connect at once and what they do: video calls, streaming, gaming or sending large work files. Compare upload as well as download speed.
Check the equipment and installation arrangements separately. The connection package and Wi-Fi coverage inside your home are different questions; ask whether one router suits the layout.
03Compare the whole contract, not the introductory price
Find the promotional period, regular monthly charge and one-off costs. Check installation, delivery and equipment charges where these apply separately.
Ask the provider to confirm the total cost and check price-change, moving and cancellation terms. Keep the offer so you can compare it with the contract before signing.
04Plan the switch before ending your current service
Confirm who cancels the old contract and when the replacement goes live. If the new provider promises to cancel it through an overstapservice, keep that confirmation and check that the old contract actually ends; otherwise two bills may follow. Keep equipment-return instructions. If you work from home, plan a temporary connection in case installation is delayed.
